The Hero Of The Right

Professor’s Classroom

Subject:  Political Theory/History

Since 1980 the Right has been all a tither over Reagan…..we hear his name mentioned over and over….ad nausem …….he could do NO wrong…..and just about every candidate since 1988 has dropped his name in a hope that it will be fruitful for them……but why his he so revered?

Was it his policies?  Was it his ideology?  Was it his personality?  Just what made him such a hero?

His policies…….smaller government…..strong defense……lower taxes….attack welfare programs….deregulate the economy…..and a free market economy…..when he was elected president he began his assault on the country…..

In reality he gave the Republican Party some new ideas that they did not have for decades and the Religious Right found an opening to exercise their influence over the country.  What Reagan did was set the stage for the Repub takeover of Congress in the 90′s……

So he is the hero because of electoral  politics…nothing else…..but if the Repubs need a real hero then they should look to the one that made all this possible and it was not Reagan…..

The conservative that the GOP seldom mentions did not win a presidential election, but he had a hand at the making of the red states that the GOP is so proud of today….who is that masked man?

Barry Goldwater!

And why would I say that?

After all Goldwater lost in a landslide, right?  Maybe so but he did receive about 27 million votes…beyond that he brought the Southern states into the GOP fold because of his stand in opposition to welfare and civil rights….you could say that Reagan was built, at least politically, by Barry Goldwater….so Repubs should be worshiping at the Goldwater alter for without him the South could very well still be a strong hold for the Dems and the GOP would be less popular than they are today.

What did Reagan do to become the hero of the Right?  He won an election…..he defeated a weak Dem candidate…that would not be a stretch in any political atmosphere…..he gave the world a lousy, lousy economic theory…the Laffer Curve…..has been debunked from the word go…..he beat the USSR….right there is enough, right?…he did that by out spending Russia and driving them in the crapper…so why is this man the hero?

I agree (in theory) with most of those ideals. The problem is that they can ONLY work for the benefit of all if you first empower the people – ALL the people – as individuals. In fact the opposite has continually occured ever since the inception of the US. It’s getting to the stage where there ain’t much left for the average Joe to lose anymore.

Keep your mind open and working….I am working on a post about why the representative government was the choice of the Founders and it has very little to do with the people…..
